Canadian singer-songwriter Meiwa (a.k.a. Kristie McCracken) has earned praise across western Canada with her maturely thoughtful lyricism and subtly sophisticated, genre-melding creativity that reflects an artist who is adroitly expanding her musical horizons. She is a WCMA 2016 ‘Urban Artist of the Year’ nominee for her debut solo album titled ‘Let Go & Grow’. Encouraging, patient and tender, she captivates with the gentle, mesmerizing allure and vulnerability of her touchingly beautiful vocals. Meiwa expresses her keenly observed and heartfelt emotions with an authentically touching candor and insightfully poised intelligence.
Meiwa has performed alongside legends such as Jim Byrnes, Ken Boothe, Leroy “Heptones” Sibbles, Barrington Levy, Lee “Scratch” Perry, and Toots and the Maytals. Other internationally acclaimed artists Meiwa has performed with include Shaggy, Easy Star All Stars, and Taj Weekes and Adowa.
Since the release of her single “Wonder” in 2018, Meiwa has been gaining traction overseas in Melbourne where she currently resides, as well as across Canada and USA. She performs solo, with a 6 piece band, and as a backing vocalist for Australia’s first lady of R&B, Thando.

I love the natural character of “Wonder,” its ability to be emotionally resonating, but not lose its charm and free-spirit.

“Wonder” […] releases tension and anxiety in my body the way that a wrench pries loose stubborn, rusted bolts. The effect is reliable, immediate, and feels literal; it’s a cause/effect relationship I can routinely perform through the act of pressing play.

She’s originally from Canada but calls Melbourne home these days so I included it here even though we only play local music, I thought that was beautiful enough to make the cut.

Euphoniously engaging, compassionate, sensitive and tender, her voice is bounded by the pristine clarity of her maturely articulate vocal tone.
